OUR TREES IN SEARCH OF THEIR IDENTITY

Oh human kind, what a joy that we have names.
As name that boasts and identify you.
We trees of the garden will remain green,
Green enough to be given our suitable names
And the serene children will cherish their identity.

My guests, my parents,
Are you not seated on the products of Podocarpus fulcatus?

Dad,
Are you not seated on the product of Vitex keniensis?

Sister,
You are seated on the product of Cupressus lusitanica, aren’t you?

To a fisherman,
Terminalia brownii may carry you across the river.

To mum,
Doesn’t Githeri taste good
If you use the quality fuelwood of olea Africana, Olea welwitshii and Pinus patula?

To a farmer,
Grivellia robusta, Sesbania sesban and Causuarina cunnighehamiana
Ensure that soil fertility is maintained.

To our home,
Croton megalocapus, Albizia gumminifera, Thika palm and Vangueria madagasceriensis
Equip the child with some monkey tricks of moving from branch to branch.

To a tired and weary person,
A rest under the shade of
Teclea nobilis, spathodea nilotica and Acacia mearnsii is indispensable.

To the sunbirds and bees around our residents,

Boihinia tomentosa, Eriobotria japonica will provide invaluable nectar.

To the environment, and to us,
Veniona laciopus,Makhamia hildebrantii and prunus Africana
Will provide a vast blanket to protect the water catchments.

To all of us,
They provide OXYGEN, which keeps us alive and kicking.
Let us conserve trees, identify them and name them
And what we cherish today, our grandchildren will admire.

THANK YOU!
